I’ve taken numerous long exposure photos of individual carnival rides. At St. Rose of Lima church in Simi Valley in 2016, I took a different approach and captured the larger scene. This frame consists of 3 rides moving simultaneously in a 5 second exposure at f/14. I normally shoot 30 second exposures when photographing carnival rides, but I found these rides moved too fast for such a lazy shutter. They were even too fast for 8 secs! 5 seconds delivered my goal— the light trail definition seen above. I hope you feel the excitement in this summer evening.
