I got the idea for this light painting while sitting on our patio one summer evening. I saw a neighbor’s cat walking across the gate around their patio, and thought about creating a similar light illustration of a cat crawling on our gate.
I initially tried this photo concept with my Lomo Light Painter and Lomo Instant Wide. I ran out of film before I got any decent shots, so I grabbed my DSLR and moved to a better spot in our parking lot. It took over 20 frames to get this photo, one of the most challenging light paintings I’ve ever done. I think the results show the concept was worth the effort. I debated whether or not to clean up the shot by editing my figure out; after careful thought, I decided to stay true to the instant film spirit and leave the shot as it is with minimal post processing.
