Perspective is among the most difficult concepts for artists to master. I’m no exception, so I try to practice perspective in my fine art drawings. The 3D staircase drawing above is based on a real staircase in my apartment community. I took a photo of the stairs and recreated the image on paper with a spooky twist. I placed a door at the top of the stairs and used the cross hatching shading technique to enhance the haunted house effect.
I usually begin my drawings in ink, but I reach for a pencil for perspective pieces. I find pencil works better for perspective illustrations because you want clean lines to guide the eye. As you can see, I also relied on graph paper to help maintain the realism factor.
